Thailand has many things to offer. We all know the beauty of the Southern islands and the historical sites of Chiang Mai.
Even though we think the whole Thailand has been explored, there are still some heavenly peaceful corners to prove we are wrong.
Kui Buri is one of them. It was an ancient city during the Ayutthaya kingdom. During the different reigns the city changed status many times, making it a minor center and helping preserving its natural beauties.
The main attraction of the area is undoubtedly the beautiful Kui Buri National Park.
Established in 1999 the park is located in the Tenasserim Hills in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and it’s home to one of biggest population of gaurs in entire Thailand with estimated around 100 individuals and around 320 elephants.
Moreover, the popular Huay Dong Mai Fai Waterfall, cascading through 15 tiers, more of which flows down to crystal clear pools ideal for swimming.
After hiking and birdwatching you will for sure prefer to spend the night in a more comfortable place.
It may be fashionable to boast of having abandoned Thailand for parts less well-known, but deep down you know that as long as there’s still undeveloped coast, and thus new resorts to be opened, you’ll keep on finding reasons to come back. One compelling enough reason for Kui Buri is the X2 Resort, set on another stretch of beachfront paradise just south of Hua Hin, a place where you can get a taste of the calmer, quieter Thailand that inspired all this travel in the first place.
X2 Kui Buri is located on a pristine and peaceful Haad Sadet (Sadet Beach). The word Sadet refers to the royal household, and often places that were frequented by the royal family go by the name “Sadet” for this reason. Given the reason for the lack of coconut trees, and the name of the beach it is now clear that this particular area was a favorite amongst a particular royal.
Indeed, anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes at the resort will be immediately aware of the magnificent trees that feature throughout the resort. Many of which are over 50 years old. Interesting is the fact that there is not a single coconut tree in the resort. Even before construction this was the case, and in this somehow strange fact lies the interesting history of the area. Throughout most of Thailand, coconut trees dominate the beachfront. The reason is that it provided the best source of income for farmers, given the sandy soil types common along the beach.
So the obvious question is why didn’t local farmers plant coconut trees on this site? The reason is that the previous owners were members of the Thai Royal family, so they were not in need of revenues from coconut trees, and instead planted a strange mix of trees, predominantly Tamarind trees, Eucalyptus trees and Pine trees. Mystery solved!
The villas waste no time on thatched roofs or any such desert-island aesthetic — the stone walls and blond wood fixtures look relentlessly modern, and if you need reminded where you are, you can just take a look out at the beach. Many come with private plunge pools but even those that don’t are spacious and impeccably appointed; air-conditioned, with plasma televisions, DVD players, big sun-lit bathrooms, private terraces and gardens and indoor and outdoor showers.
Escape privately if you want or join the (modest) crowd — there’s a central pool for social swimming, with spa services offered in treatment rooms or beach pavilions, as well as the visually striking 4K restaurant and the late-night cocktail bar.
And now X2 Kui Buri is offering WTF (Wine, Travel and Food) promotion for those who appreciate fine things in life.
